Back in the swing of things
Sickness be gone! I'm very happy to report that I'm finally feeling back to (almost) normal. I was even able to go to the gym this morning and yoga this afternoon. I really missed yoga!

Pickle quest
As you may or may not know, I love dill pickles. And I've been very disappointed lately that Whole Foods has stopped carrying my favorite brand, Cosmic Cukes. (And they were the only store I've found that carried them.)
On a work trip to Kentucky a few years ago, I was served some pickles at a restaurant, and I fell in love. They don't replace the Cosmic Cukes, but they are good in their own right. I've been trying to figure out what kind they are for a long time now! I think I've tracked down the brand, and perhaps the specific type. I ordered them, and they should be here Friday!
Yes, I paid way too much to have pickles shipped to my house from somewhere in Ohio. But I'm ridiculously hopeful that they will be exactly what I remember!

First comes love...then comes marriage...
I found out this morning that I'm pregnant! OMG!

So many emotions...ranging from "what did we do?!?" to "wow, this is really happening!"
Two and a half weeks until my first doctor appointment. How am I going to keep my mouth shut about this???

The downside of traveling
I'm coming down with the flu. My chest is achy, I'm coughing, and my head is swimmy with a fever. Damn you random sick people on airplanes!
This is not the way I wanted to spend my three-day weekend. :(
I'm gonna get a flu shot next year.

Brrrrr!
Work has brought me to lovely Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The high temperature today was 17 degrees, and the high tomorrow is likely to be in the single digits. Yikes! Fortunately, our meetings are being held in the same hotel at which we are staying, so we only have to venture out for dinner. Or eat in the hotel and not venture outside at all, which we did last night after arriving and checking in.
The meetings are going well so far; tomorrow will be another jam-packed day. Before each trip I say that I don't want to go, but I have such a good experience every time. I really enjoy working with the teachers in the states to which I travel, and it provides such great feedback to inform my future work. I am kinda eager to return to the California weather, however! I'm such a wuss now. :oP

New faucet!
I'm so happy that we finally replaced the fixtures in our kitchen sink! We (and when I say "we" I mean Chris) disassembled the Insta-hot system that has been sitting there unused and broken for 3+ years and removed the old faucet that was cracked and falling apart.
We now have a fancy new dish soap dispenser where the hot water spigot used to be, and an upgraded faucet that does not have plastic parts! :)

Sushi and paperwork
Chris told me yesterday that he would take me to dinner anywhere I wanted to go. Aww, what a sweetie! I chose sushi, of course! I also told him that I have made the executive decision that we are going to go to sushi monthly, just in case it is the last time I am able to eat my beloved spicy tuna rolls for 9 months. ;) I've just started TTC and I'm already worried about the foods I won't be able to eat anymore! Haha.
One of my goals for today is to finish the paperwork to refinance the house(s). I just don't want to do it! It's long, repetitive, and frankly, confusing. I needed my broker to put little flags on it that said "Fill out this section" and "Sign here", but all I got was a bundle of blank forms. *sigh* Maybe I'll have the energy to tackle it after I go for a run. Maybe.

Meeting baby Sean
A few pics from our recent trip to San Diego to meet 6-week-old baby Sean...he's one big boy!
Spilling the beans
So the BIG new thing for 2009 is the decision Chris and I made to actively start trying to conceive (TTC). Yes, Chris is still in school, but the timing just feels right to begin trying. Who knows if we are one of those couples that will struggle? I just don't really want to wait any longer to find out. My clock isn't ticking very loudly, but I definitely do hear it.
It's exciting and a bit scary to admit that we're ready to take this plunge. We've been talking about it for a long time, but it was just understood that it would happen "someday".
I really enjoyed our trip to San Diego after Christmas to meet baby Sean. Lauren and Jesse seem to have settled wonderfully into a parenting routine, and that was very encouraging to see. I feel like that weekend really reinforces what I've been thinking and feeling for some time now. I'm not ready to tell friends and family about our decision...but I'm so thankful to have another supportive network where I can discuss such matters. It makes all the difference. ;)

Jumping on the bandwagon
So many people have blogs these days...I feel like the last person to start one. But it's a new year, and while I don't typically make resolutions, I do strive to try new things. And since the world of blogging is still new to me, I decided to get my toes wet.
I am looking forward to the change that 2009 will bring. Change for myself, my family, my job, and my country. (I feel cheesy saying that last part, but it's true.) There is so much I have to be thankful for, and I hope that this blog will be a constant reminder of that.
This is my today. Bring on my tomorrow!
