I was feeling really good when I went in for my first doctor appointment at 7 weeks. I still wanted to run, jump, and play. But seems like as soon as I got the all clear to do so, it all started to go downhill.
Weeks 7, 8, and 9 were not fun. I was smell-sensitive, wanted NOTHING to do with sweets (although this started much earlier), and was generally nauseous all the time. But I can't complain too much, because I was never sick (thank goodness!). I did come close, though, that night when Chris decided to bake some chocolate chip cookies...I'm glad our bedroom is far enough away from the kitchen that I didn't have to smell them! :oP
Weeks 10 through 13 have been great. I still don't have as much energy as I would like, but I'm hopeful that will change soon. My appetite is back to normal, and I'm not nearly as nauseous as I was just a few short weeks ago. I'm looking forward to what the second trimester brings!

The NT scan
13w1d
This was a pretty amazing appointment! They kept me waiting for longer than I'd like, but once they let me empty my bladder I was a much happier camper. :oP
We got good news all around. The heartbeat is strong, and Cookie is measuring right on track. They took lots of time and lots of pictures...we even got some 4D pics, which was a welcome surprise!

We scheduled the "big" ultrasound for May 6th, where we'll find out the gender. What do you think: boy or girl? (I put a not-so-fancy poll off to the right!)

Spilling the *other* beans

Well, we're out of the closet. A few friends have known for a few weeks, but we've been keeping the majority of people in the dark about the pregnancy. Including the parents!
We had dinner with Chris's parents last night, and revealed toward the end of the meal. Chris had bought a onesie and some little socks (all with Cal's Oski on them) and I wrapped them in tissue paper and put them in a bag. We gave them to Chris's mom after dinner, who said "What's this present for?" Chris said, "It's a retirement gift, something to keep you occupied." She pulled out the clothes and stared at them for a second, and then said, "Okay, but who are these for?" Chris just smiled and said, "They're for your next grandchild!" Ah, the lightbulb goes off. Haha.
We told my mom today by giving her a card that said "Welcome to grandparenthood!" and we included the due date. Perhaps the direct approach is better? :)
The spreading of the news through Chris's family was seriously like wildfire. Twenty minutes after we got home from dinner we were getting calls from cousins and aunts screaming and saying congratulations. I love that everyone is just as excited about Cookie as we are.

Here's lookin' at you, Cookie

I go in for my NT scan on Tuesday. I'm really looking forward to having another ultrasound, and especially one where Cookie (aka the baby) looks like something other than a blob. (Get it? Cookie? Hee hee.)

Hearing the heartbeat
11w3d
This was possibly one of the coolest things I have ever heard! My doctor used a doppler to first find my heartbeat, which was low and slow, and then he moved to find the baby's heartbeat, which was louder and quicker. He even positioned the wand so that we could hear both hearts beating at the same time. Neat stuff. :)
