Haiku for my Tide pen

18w2d

Drips fall from above
Growing belly a target
Tide pen saves the day

Ah, how I wish I had pictures to share... (or do I?)

It first happened while olive oil tasting in Sonoma on my recent vacation. On our last stop of the day, as I was bringing that toothpick with that little cube of bread dipped in oil to my mouth...DRIP. What normally would have ended up on the floor was now smack in the middle of my shirt. Lovely!

And then this morning, it happened again. I was innocently eating a strawberry and didn't notice a thing was amiss. Well, 10 minutes later I look down at my shirt and see 2 red spots. Super! But I ran to get my Tide pen and voila! No more red spots.

I looooove my Tide pen! Seriously, if you are at all prone to dripping or dropping food on yourself (pregnant belly or not) I can't recommend these things enough. ;)

Good news!

17w2d

I just got a call from the perinatal office with the results of my integrated screening and bloodwork. There is a risk of 1 in 10,000 that Cookie has Down's Syndrome, and a risk of 1 in 4,000 that s/he has an open spine defect. I was told that these were both "excellent" results. So, yay!

Week 17

17w1d

Wow, time is flying by! Here is a recent pic. I've grown so much in just a few short weeks!

Only two more weeks until we try to find out the gender...vote in my poll if you haven't already! :)

Lovely vacation!

It was a great week! The weather turned gorgeous toward the end, and a good time was had by all. Sleeping in, hiking on Mt. Tam, wine tasting in Napa and Sonoma, strolling around Chinatown in SF...

Now to prepare to go back to the grind...

Surprise party and belly rubs

15w5d

Today was Sheila's surprise retirement party. (The retirement wasn't a surprise, but the party was!) ;)

It went really well; I think everyone had a great time. We lured her there under the guise of a family Easter get-together, but when she walked in there were about 60 friends and family members waiting to congratulate her. Some of her former co-workers from Vegas even flew in for the day. She was really touched. (But not touched enough to cry--Chris lost $5 in a bet because of that!)

It was also the first time that the extended family has seen me since I announced I was pregnant. On the drive over, Chris and I were discussing who would likely be the first to rub my belly. And well, Grandma won! I was barely in the door for a minute when she introduced me to some people I didn't know. She also introduced Cookie to them as "our someone special" while rubbing in big circles. So, now I've gotten my first belly rub out of the way. I admit, it was weird having someone touch my stomach, but I can't very well get mad at Grandma, now can I?

Everyone was very excited for us; this is going to be one well-loved baby! :)

Vacation!

I'm on vacation all next week...woohoo! Two more days to go.

I'm not going anywhere, but a good friend is coming into town for a visit. She came to visit last year too, and I felt so bad that I couldn't take any time off work to show her around. (I must say that she did a marvelous job entertaining herself, though.) Well, this year will be different. I'm really looking forward to a little bit of playtime in my own backyard!

Growing belly

15w0d

The day has finally come where I'm more comfortable in maternity pants than my regular pants. I love my Bella Band, but some days it just isn't enough!

Here I am at 15 weeks. :) I've got some shopping to do!

April fool?

14w2d

Not this year, fortunately! I told myself "don't fall for it!" all day, and it worked. :)

I went back to the gym today for the first time in a long time, and it felt GREAT. I've been waking up with a decent amount of energy for the past few days, so I figured it was time. Seriously, it's like someone flipped the second trimester switch and BAM, no more fatigue!

I tried jogging, but that didn't work out too well. Ha! With the, um, extra weight I've got going on up top plus the fact that my heart rate shoots up much faster than it used to, I guess I'm resigned to hiking on an incline if I'm going to use the treadmill. But I also went to yoga at lunch...and ah how I've missed it! I can't wait to get back into my regular routine.
