Chris had his blood test, and the results came back quickly. He's NOT a carrier for CF. Woohoo!

Finally, ALL the grown-up furniture!
We decided to be good Americans and stimulate the economy by buying new living room furniture that we actually selected (thereby finally ditching our mismatched living room furniture that has been with us for far, far too long).
We bought the couch and chairs just before Thanksgiving 2008. The couch was delivered a few weeks later. But the chairs had to be special ordered because we wanted them in the same fabric. And we just got them last weekend (yes, in February!). Finally!
I <3 them. :)

Documents done!
Whew! We have finally finished the process of refinancing the houses. Yippee!
Thank you Noushin, for getting us an awesome rate, and thank you Dolores, for walking us through the mountains of paperwork. (I swear my eyes glazed over when I saw the huge stacks of documents waiting to be signed!)
What's more, is that even though we had to come up with a lot of cash up front, we also don't have to pay the mortgage bill this month or the property tax bill in April, since they were both bundled into escrow. I know we are still out that cash, but somehow not having to write checks for those bills makes me feel a little richer. :)

The rats are gone?
Maybe, hopefully. We caught one (definitely a rat and not a mouse); Chris disposed of it. It has now been awhile since I have heard anything. I don't know what to think!
Regardless, I'm enjoying the silence while it lasts!

Ah, genetics!

Today I got the results from all the blood tests they did at my first appointment.
So, now Chris has to have a blood test to see if he is also a carrier. If he's not, we're in the clear. If he is, there is a 1 in 4 chance that the baby will have CF (but also a 3 in 4 chance that it won't!).
I'm eager to get the results of his test. I'm concerned, but also not too worried at this point. We'll cross any bridges when we come to them.

- I'm not anemic.
- I don't have HIV.
- I don't have syphilis.
- I don't have hepatitis-B.
- I am immune to german measles.
- My thyroid is functioning normally.
- I am a carrier of the gene for cystic fibrosis.

Valentine's Day
Valentine's Day was nice and mellow this year. No hoopla: just the way I like it! (I can't have flowers in the house because the cats will eat them, and I'm not a huge fan of big boxes of chocolates. Besides, that all costs WAY too much just because of the date on the calendar.)
Chris and I had a relaxing day, made dinner at home, and then snuggled in to watch Lost on TiVo. I thought it was a really good episode! I love that show.

First ultrasound

We saw the heartbeat! I thought I was 7 weeks 1 day. Turns out I'm measuring 6 weeks 5 days (+/- 5 days), which is pretty much exactly where I thought I'd be based on my chart.

I told Chris the baby looks just like him. :)

Day 2: Operation get rid of the rats
Maybe they are mice. One of the traps was triggered, but no critters were caught.
I wonder if the cats are getting used to staring at the walls, tracking the sounds, but being unable to catch anything. :-/

And the beat goes on?
Chris has been using his stethoscope to try to find the heartbeat. But all he's heard so far is me, digesting food. :oP I'm telling him that 7 weeks is way too early to hear anything without some more sophisticated equipment! Haha.
We're thinking it might be cool to rent a doppler sometime in the future, though.

Day 1: Operation get rid of the rats
We went to Chris's parents' house yesterday to borrow their rat traps. The little buggers have been very active in our bedroom walls and ceiling lately!
I heard them running around last night and this morning...and no trap snaps. What gives? Do they not like peanut butter? Are they mice and not rats and therefore too small to trigger the traps? Hmmm.
